My whole life I've been at the top of the list...or either a close second..sometimes a third...
I've always been a "B"...and yesterday during new hire introductions...I wasn't first, second, or third...I was fourth...because now I'm a "M"...
I was totally fine with it...I got to watch to see what everyone else did...like stand or just raise their hand when their name was called...had I been first I wouldn't have known what to do...
You see, I had a pretty traumatic experience in the 6th grade...so traumatic in fact I talked about it in my impromptu speech to get into the Teacher Education Program...IT WORKED!!!
Here goes...
When I was in the sixth grade we were learning about Egypt...well my teacher (who no matter what I still liked) invited her husband (who was the county coronor) to come in and speak to our class about embalming...well, the day before he came in she got a roll of white paper for each student to write their name on in hieroglyphics...well because I was a "B" I went first...about half way through she came over and said, "BRITTANY BAKER WHAT ARE YOU DOING!!!"...I immediately teared up from shear embarrassement...and because I never got in "trouble"...well, turns out I had written my hieroglyphyics way to big...
So, the moral to the story...I like to have an example so being at the end of the line is kind of nice...sometimes
The only problem is...my new last name is obviously hard for people to spell...so now instead of having to worry about people spelling my first name wrong I have to worry about them spelling my last name wrong... as well as mispronouncing it...I guess that's what I get for moving to the midwest...up here almost everyone has a weird last name...back home you get the normal Smith, Jones, Williams, etc...
That brings me to another traumatic story...and for some reason I think I may have already shared it in an earlier post but can't remember...
Here goes...
One year during VBS we were making handprint t-shirts and the "art teacher" asked me how to spell my name so she could put it at the top of the shirt...I told her the RIGHT way and she didn't think I spelled MY OWN name right...soooo she spelled it Britney...needless to say I was extremely upset and NEVER wore that t-shirt...I've had a complex since then about people spelling my name wrong...for the record it's BRITTANY ...
